Cheewa Komolmalai was a remarkable artist whose works are proudly preserved in the collection of Kunawong House Museum. He lived in complete harmony with stone and nature at his studio Prathimakorn Sathan in Sai Yok, Kanchanaburi. With nothing more than chisels and small hammers, he created sculptures of immense depth and meaning. The museum’s collection of his works came from the personal encounters of Sermkhun and Mueanfun Kunawong, who met and conversed with the artist during his lifetime.
🎨 Cheewa’s art was recognized both nationally and internationally. His sculptures explored the raw forms of natural stone, often transforming into abstracted human figures and faces. His works carried an intrinsic aesthetic power, speaking for themselves without the need for explanation.
✨ At the heart of Cheewa’s philosophy was the belief in removal rather than addition. He sought to carve away everything unnecessary, leaving only the purest essence of the stone. For him, sculpture was about distilling form into its cleanest, most essential presence—something that, when touched, could evoke joy and reveal the quiet strength of simplicity.
Visitors can experience the profound artistry of Cheewa Komolmalai at Kunawong House Museum, where his legacy continues to inspire.
